Exotic Street Iron in Austin

These are from 1968, and I’m only posting the more interesting ones. They started having street races in 1963 for the Aqua Festival. I didn’t go until 1964, and then I did not have a real camera. The SCCA people were tight on crowd control (reasonably so in light of various episodes), but there was a place at Dawson Road and Riverside where I could point the lens out the window of a metal building and get some good corner shots.

The first is a classic McLaren Elva with a Chevrolet engine. Bruce McLaren was killed the following year, but his brand lives on in racing. The second appears to be a Lola of some sort.

About John Blanton

I'm a retired engineer living in San Antonio, Texas. I have served in the Navy, raced motorcycles, taken scads of photos and am usually a nice guy. I have political and religious opinions, and these opinions tend to be driven by an excess of observed stupidity. Gross stupidity is the supposed target of many of my posts.
