Fuel Dragsters at ARP

They built Austin Raceway Park about 1966 and soon had drag races there. Crowd control was slack in those days, and I again finagled a photographer’s pass to get close to the action.

My first shot was right at the beginning, the first event. I didn’t even have my SLR yet. I shot this time exposure at night with my Argus C3 on a tripod:

I did another night shot later with my Pentax SLR on a tripod. Almost dark, so some sky is still showing. The car leaves during the exposure, trailing a ghost image over the starter:
