The Bird House

Readers will recall… OK, maybe they won’t recall, but a few years ago my grandson John gave me a birdhouse for a present:

I put it up on the back yard fence and waited for some action.

No birds came to live there, so I asked John what I should do. He told me the birdhouse was just for decoration. I should not expect birds to actually live there.

So I put the bird house in the garage, and there it stayed for a year or so. Then last year my back yard trees had grown much larger, so I took the bird house and stuck it up in one of the trees. I just wedged it between some branches.

A family of birds built a nest in the bird house, and after they left I cleaned out the old nest and hung the bird house from a branch in the tree.

Alas, in April a terrible hail storm wiped out the bird house, completely destroyed it. I took the pieces and consigned them to the trash bin. John promised to give me a new bird house.

Yesterday, John and I had lunch at Rudy’s Barbecue in New Braunfels, and he gave me the new bird house. It is just grand. I have hung it back in the tree, hopefully beneath a branch that will protect it from future hail storms. Here’s a photo.

I will keep readers updated and let you know when any birds move in. Keep reading.

About John Blanton

I'm a retired engineer living in San Antonio, Texas. I have served in the Navy, raced motorcycles, taken scads of photos and am usually a nice guy. I have political and religious opinions, and these opinions tend to be driven by an excess of observed stupidity. Gross stupidity is the supposed target of many of my posts.
